Today we talked to Marc E. Bassy, an LA-based dance/R&B artist (and one of Brendan’s personal favorite’s). With his zen vibe and candid perspective, Bassy radiates positive, creative energy. He’s celebrating the release of his new single, “Trouble”, one that is launching him into a new era of his artistry.
There’s no denying that quarantine was traumatic, and every artist we talk to has similar stories of the personal development and musical shifts that have blossomed from that trauma. But Marc E. Bassy’s genuine admittance of change was relatable in a really fresh way, as he flat out told us, “The energy of Post Modern Depression just isn’t here anymore”. And rather than holding back to keep his music in this same space, Marc E. Bassy is following his musical instinct into the exciting direction of his new album, which is set to be released in August 2021 under his own label, New Gold Medal. He’s leaning into this personal and musical evolution, shifting into a dance-rock inspired sound full of hand-crafted synths that we get a sneak peek of in his new single, “Trouble”. While other artists may falter at the idea of shifting directions after building a fanbase, Marc E. Bassy is thriving, and we think his fans will be too.
“Evolving and making my sound better and more interesting to myself is the most paramount aspect of what I do... my music has to expand.”
This perspective is essential in a world of social media and the pressures of sites like TikTok. Marc E. Bassy is committed to his music and to staying authentic in his artistic growth, not stopping to let his “self worth be determined by views”.
